OHSAS 18001 focuses on the internal environment, i.e. the work environment. We have to identify the work environment risks inherent in the activities we carry out. A construction company may have builders who work at altitude, for example. We identify the risks inherent in that work and undertake measures to reduce the risk. We also need to find out all about the psychological and ergonomic work situations of our staff. Essentially, we need to perform the following tasks.
Monitoring of work environment legislation and ensuring compliance with such legislation
Work environment risk assessment
Targets and action plans
Control and key indicators
Dealing with incidents and accidents
Management review for analysis and decisions
